Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a beautiful, unspoilt seaside town. It arose approximately 150 years ago as a charming Victorian town with a wealth of history and architecture, including the building which was formerly the Zetland Hotel at the end of the original station. Enjoy its attractions that include the cliff lift (funicular railway), the pier, outstanding sandy beach, an enthusiast-run miniature railway, the Italian Gardens and beautiful woodland walks. There are several playgrounds to explore and on the seafront, you can surf, fish, have fun with crazy golf or visit the small amusement arcade. There are often events in the town, ranging from craft and food fairs, classic car rallies, music performances and firework displays. You can easily park your car when you arrive and not need to get back in until you’re leaving! Check online for the current diaries for the local area as there is always something new going along.
Saltburn is also ideal for cyclists or walkers, with a stretch of the Cleveland Way going along its clifftop. It is also a great base for Yorkshire Moors walking trips. Venture up the 1000ft Roseberry Topping for views on the way to Great Ayton, James Cook’s childhood home.
A short drive away are the other coastal gems of Staithes, Runswick Bay, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Take in the industrial heritage of the area through visits to the Tees Transporter Bridge or Skinningrove’s Ironstone Mining Museum.
The options are endless!
